Obituary for Michael D. "Mike" Eubanks
Mike was born May 25, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas to Jack Murton & Annie June (Hutchison) Eubanks Mikeska. On November 20, 1965 he married his high school sweetheart Carol Ann (Kotrla) Eubanks. Mike was a member of several different reserve units within the Army from September 1962 until February 1973, when he then became active in the United States Army. While serving in the United States Army, Mike had several tours of duty to Korea, Germany, Hawaii & Fort Hood. Mike received numerous commendations & awards; Meritorious Service, Good Conduct, Armed Forces Reserve, National Defense Service, Professional Development, Excellence-In-Competition along with several others. After serving for 30 years within the United States Army Mike retired as a Senior NCO September of 1992 and returned to Burleson County.
Mike was an integral part in establishing the Burleson County 4-H Shooting Sports that was established in the mid sixties. This year would have been his 50th anniversary with Burleson County Shooting Sports. Mike remained involved throughout the years providing guidance, knowledge and his overall passion for shooting sports and the youth of Burleson County. In addition, while serving in Fort Hood on active duty he coached the Fort Hood Shooting team and also coached and instructed several teams throughout Texas, including The Corp of Cadets Rifle Team at Texas A&M University. Mike took pride in everything he did and made a lasting impression on many youth not only in Burleson County but across the State of Texas.
Mike enjoyed serving wherever needed at his home church of Harmony Baptist. Mike was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator which he enjoyed immensely. In addition he participated and completed the Citizens Police Academy Training Program thru the Caldwell Police Department. In addition Mike held the title of Chief Range Safety Officer and Training Counselor-Instructor with the National Rifle Association. Mike was an active member of American Legion Post #451, Veterans of Foreign Wars #4458, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 86 where he served as Commander for many years, and founding member of the West Bell County Shooting Association.
Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol Ann (Kotrla) Eubanks, parents Jack Murton & Annie June (Hutchison) Eubanks Mikeska, infant brother Melvin Dewayne Eubanks, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard J. and Mary Ann (Kristof) Kotrla, Sr. brothers-in-laws, Charles Schultz, Richard Kotrla, and Robert Kotrla. Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl Eubanks of Montgomery, Letha Smith and husband, Jim of Harker Heights and Michelle McCarthy and fiance, Michael Krueger of Caldwell; brother & sister-in-law, Jack and Lillie Eubanks of Hamilton, brother, Tandy Eubanks of Somerville, sister, Lorene Schultz of Caldwell, brother & sister-in-law, Lenard and Teri Mikeska, Jr of Somerville; brother-in-law & sister-in-law Claren and Jean Kotrla of Hilltop Lakes; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Joani and Eric Groce of Snook, four grandchildren, Christina Smith, James Smith, Megan McCarthy and Adam Nunez. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and beloved friends. 1
