Deward Chesser of Early, Texas (formerly a resident of Mullin), died Saturday, November 8, 1997 at the Care Nursing Center in Early, Texas. He was 87 years of age.
Mr. Chesser was born September 22, 1910 in the Williams Ranch Community of Mills County, the son of Ben F. and Martha (Ragsdale) Singleton (Chesser). He married Gladys Singleton on December 20, 1933 at the Williams Ranch Community.
He lived in Mills County most of his life. He was a Methodist. He was a heavy equipment operator.
Mt Chesser was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, on September 1, 1993.
Survivors are two sons; DeWayne Chesser of Jal, New Mexico and Wilber Chesser of Las Vegas, Nevada; one daughter, Debra Shields of Brownwood; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The funeral was Tuesday, November 11, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Mullin Texas. Rev. Arthur Allen officiated at the final rites. Burial was in the Oakview Cemetery, Mullin, Texas.
Pallbearers were Chris Chesser, David Chesser, Dale Singleton, Sheral Rainbolt, and Billy Singleton. Honorary pallbearers were Myrl Shields, Autry Keating, and Carl Hohertz.
Deward married Gladys Ruth Singleton, daughter of Joe Buford Singleton and Martha Pearl Stark, on 20 Dec 1933. (Gladys Ruth Singleton was born on 27 Dec 1913 in Arkansas, died on 1 Sep 1993 in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas and was buried in Oakview Cemetery, Mullin, Mills County, Texas.)
