DR. THOMAS CLARK GRAVES, 84, PASSES AWAY ON SUNDAY, MARCH 26TH Dr. Thomas Clark Graves, prominent Mills County dentist, passed away Sunday, March 26, 1995 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple following complications of a heart attack. He had attained the age of 84 years. He was born September 7, 1910 at Center City, Mills County, Texas. He was the son of Tom Brown and Amber Sullivan Graves.
He was the eldest of six children and graduated from Goldthwaite High School. He attended the University of Texas for his pre-dental training. He taught school at Mr. Olive School in Mills County for three years before entering Baylor Dental College. After graduation he began private practice in Goldthwaite in 1936.
He practiced dentistry continually in Goldthwaite for 56 years until his retirement in 1992. He lived in Mills County all of his life and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Goldthwaite.
Dr. Graves married Minnie Cody in 1935 at Mt. Olive, Texas. They have two children; Martha Carolyn Good of Albuquerque, NM and Dr. Thomas Cody Graves, also a Goldthwaite dentist.
Dr. Graves has been an active member of the Methodist Church, and served on the school board, Lions Club, Goldthwaite City Council and other organizations. Beyond the local community, he served as County Chairman of the Democratic Party for many years.
He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 50 years, serving on district, regional and national executive boards. He is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. He has received the Silver Beaver, Silver Antelope, Cross and Flama Award, Jo Wesley Fellow Award and the James E. West Fellowship Award. He was a charter member of the National Organization of Methodist Scouthers.
He was also active as a board member, former Chairman of the Board and present Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors at Mills County State Bank.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter and husband, Martha Carolyn and Dr. R. Earl Good of Albuquerque; one son and wife, Dr. Tom Cody and Carol Graves of Goldthwaite; five grandchildren, Cynthia and Robert Good and Debra, Cody and Lisa Graves; three sisters, Mabel Lillian Shetlar of Girard, Kansas, Amber Florence Turner of Lubbock and Lee Ruth Campbell of Goldthwaite; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 1995 from the First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery with Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family request that memorial be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Comanche Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America, Brownwood, Texas.
