Lorene C. Armstrong
Lorene C. Armstrong, 95, of Goldthwaite, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, in Hamilton.
Born Aug. 30, 1923, she was a daughter Lewis Covington and Olive Frances Collier.
On May 4, 1946, in Grand Prairie, Texas, she married Glendon L. Armstrong. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Born and raised in Pleas ant Grove, a graduate of Goldthwaite High School, she went on to the Bluebonnet Munitions plant in McGregor to do her part during World War II. Then off to Long Beach, Calif., to show the Douglas Aircraft Company plant what Rosie Riveters from Goldthwaite were capable of. The love she carried for her America never stopped. Marrying an Air Force man, they spent years in Texas, Good Bay Labrador, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Bermuda, and back to Texas. She and her husband returned in 1984 to retire in their home town. He preceded her in death the same year.
Surviving are her daughter and son in law, Glenna and Mike Kelley of Milton, Fla.; her son, Robert L. Armstrong of Coaling, Ala., eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; four great greatgrand children; her sister, Robbie Robertson of Goldthwaite; her sisters in law, Frances Covington of Fort Worth, Texas, Mary Lou Woods of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Annette Moore of San Angelo, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1984, one sister, and three brothers.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery, with Mike Kelley officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stacy Wilkins Funeral Home.
Lorene married Glendon Lee Armstrong, son of Robert Lee Armstrong and Annie Wilson, on 4 May 1946 in Grand Prairie, Dallas County, Texas. (Glendon Lee Armstrong was born on 25 Jan 1920 in Lometa, Lampasas County, Texas.)
