Kerrville Daily Times, 19 Sep 2005: "FLORESVILLE - Doris Evans Beach, 85, of Bandera passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, in a Floresville care center following a lengthy illness.

On June 27, 1920, she was born to Brice S. Mayfield and Annie May Lackey Mayfield in Medina. She was salutatorian of the Medina High School graduating class in 1938 and was an accomplished young lady.

In Medina on Sept. 28, 1938, she married Herbert Marion "Pete" Evans, who preceded her in death on June 8, 1967. On Oct. 11, 1969, she married Arthur Carter Beach at Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2005. Doris was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a loving friend.

She was a talented seamstress who sewed for numerous people, as well as for the children's clothing factory of the late Mrs. Velma Harrell Elliott of Medina. For several years she worked as a bookkeeper at the Bandera Locker Plant and the Chevrolet agencies in Bandera. Later she decided that she would like to be an accountant, and after successfully completing the course, was employed by the firm of Pressler & Thompson in Kerrville.

After she and Carter retired, they moved back to her home at Bandera and were founding members of the Walker Memorial Baptist Chapel at Wharton's Dock. Doris was a past Worthy Matron of the Bandera Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and had been very active with the Rainbow Girls. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Bandera, where she taught Sunday School for many years.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Jennifer Anne Evans and two brothers, Brice Darrell Mayfield and Carl R. Mayfield. Survivors include sons, Al Evans and wife Anita of Medina, Richard Evans and wife Theresa of Bandera and James A. Beach of Como, Texas; daughters, Martha Jean Richeson of Houston and Anita Lynn Bigbee of Dallas; sister, Mary Jo Porter and husband, H. L. Of Arlington, Texas; brother, Samuel Oscar Mayfield and wife Dixie of Grapeland, Texas; 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bandera with Brother Louis Vannatter officiating. Interment will follow in Bandera Cemetery with Pat Wootton, Randy Evans, Arlan Habenicht, Larry Mayfield, Oscar Mayfield and Ron Mayfield serving as pallbearers. Family visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera, Texas.
