Lone Star Park Horsemen's Bookkeeper Gail Evans Succumbs To Cancer

Gail Hubble Evans, Texas Horsemen's Partnership's Horsemen's Bookkeeper at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie since the fall of 1999, passed away at a San Antonio hospital on Saturday, August 18, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 47 years old. A graveside service will be held at Tres Lomas Ranch Cemetery on Morris Ranch, Bandera County, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21.

Born on May 1, 1954 in Kerrville, Texas, Gail had lived in Medina, Texas, for the greater part of her life and graduated from Charlotte High School.

Gail worked for the Texas Racing Commission from February 1994 through December of 1995. She began at Bandera Downs as an auditor/licensing clerk, and she later worked as a licensing clerk at Retama Park.

Gail was hired by the THP in September 1999 as the Horsemen's Bookkeeper at Lone Star Park prior to the start of the fall race meet. She enjoyed working with the horsemen and enjoyed being a part of the racing industry. Gail passed away surrounded by her family.

Gail was survived by her parents, Nora Ann and H. W. "Buddy" Hubble of Medina; 2 daughters, Dona Evans Montgomery and husband, Steve, and Casey Evans, all of Battlement Mesa, Colorado; 5 sisters, Frances Kaiser and husband Richard of Medina; Elaine Snell and husband, Gene, of Medina; Terry McDonald of Kerrville; Carol Bronstad and husband, Gerald, of Jourdanton; and Jackie Doyle and husband, Kent, of Medina; 4 brothers, Dr. Henry L. Hubble and wife, Chula, of Medina; Carl Hubble and wife, Betty Faye, of Medina; Rocky Hubble and wife, Linda, of San Antonio; and Robert Hubble and wife, Annette, of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gail will be greatly missed by the THP staff and the horsemen at Lone Star Park. ²

Gail married Jesse Preston Evans, son of Lemuel Francis Evans and Dorothy Elizabeth Sutton.
