Col. Foster G. Ramsey
Col. Foster G. Ramsey, son of Oscar & Velma Ramsey, was born April 12, 1923 in Somerset, Pennsylvania. He died April 29, 2012.
The son of a coal mine foreman, Col. Ramsey enlisted in the army on October 20, 1939 and was assigned to the Carlisle Barracks. In WWII he served in New Guinea and participated in the invasion of the Philippine Islands on Leyte and Lingayen Gulf and the liberation of Manila. In 1945 he received a combat zone direct commission, Tech Sgt & 2nd LT., MSC from Gen MacArthur. He served in the Korean War in 1950 & 1951, attaining the ranks of Captain and Major. Col. Ramsey retired as Exec. Officer, Chief Surgeon's Office, U.S. Army Pacific Theatre on June 1, 1967 with 28 years of military service.
Following his retirement Col. Ramsey served as a nursing home director and finally as a hospital administrator for Holy Cross Hospital for 2 years until 1982 until 1982 when he finally retired with his wife of 65 years, Dovie Ramsey on their ranch in Spicewood, Texas where they have lived since 1963.
Col. Ramsey is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, and his son, Todd O. Ramsey. He is survived by his wife, Dovie Ramsey, daughter Joan L. Killebrew, grandson Raymond Killebrew & wife Tracy, and great grandchildren Jordan Killebrew, Karissa Killebrew and Sydney Killebrew.
Graveside service will be Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 1:30 PM at Fall Creek Cemetery, Spicewood, TX where Col. Ramsey will be laid to rest with full military honors. Foster married Dovie A. Burton, daughter of Brooks F. Burton and Oscie Ola. (Dovie A. Burton was born on 19 Jan 1925 in Spicewood, Burnet County, Texas, died on 10 Mar 2014 and was buried on 12 Mar 2014 in Fall Creek Cemetery, Burnet County, Texas.)
