  General Notes:

In Memory of James Leon Bailey
December 24, 1925 - May 26, 2015

James Leon Bailey, born December 24, 1925, left this earth on May 26, 2015. He was born in Spicewood, Texas, to Oscar & Margaret Bailey. He was preceded in death by his Mother & Father, sisters Edith and Valree, brother Carl and son Michael.

Survived by his wife Anita, daughters, Judy Bailey of Utopia and Kristie Eason of Marble Falls. Grandsons Josh & Bailey Jackson, Ace & Jett Eason, granddaughter Tori Bailey of Beeville and great-granddaughters Kiera Lynn & Kaitlynn of Beeville, sister Norma Lea Tomison of Austin, loving nieces and nephews and so many friends. He loved his family and loved his friends. Leon & Anita were married for 47 years as of this year – May 18, 2015. They made a home in Spicewood in 1972 on the Old Home place of Leon's parents.

Leon served his Country in the Navy at the early age of 16. He was on the USS Franklin. On March 19, 1945 the USS Franklin was hit by 2 piercing bombs. One struck the flight deck centerline igniting fires through the second and third decks and knocking out the combat information center and airplot. The second hit aft, tearing through two decks and fanning fires. The Franklin, within 50 miles of the Japanese mainland, lay dead in the water. Many of the crew were blown overboard, driven off by fire, killed or wounded, but the 106 officers and 604 enlisted who voluntarily remained saved their ship through sheer valor and tenacity. The casualties totaled 724 killed and 265 wounded, and would have exceeded this number except for the heroic work of many of the survivors.
