Homer's father Lee C. Henderson was born in Missouri, his mother Jessie W. in Texas. At the time of the 1920 census, the family lived and farmed in Strauss, Cotton County, Oklahoma. His siblings were Ed L., Dewey C., and Marie T. When Homer registered for the WWI draft on 5 Jun 1918, he gave his birth place as Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma, but Oklahoma wasn't a state at that time. In was Chickasaw Indian Lands. He was working on a farm near Walter, Cotton County, Oklahoma. L. C. Henderson was his nearest relative. He was slightly disabled by a sprained knee. At the time of the 1930 census, Homer was a tool dresser in the oil field. He rented his home in Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma. His sister in law Gladys Andis was part of the household.
