General Notes:
Court records show that John M. McGaughy, a cousin of his father, was made guardian of Boyd. He apparently grew up in John's home. He attended LaGrange College before moving to Mississippi and taught school for many years. He authored McGaughy's Arithmetic textbook used in many early Mississippi schools. His first home was a Chestnut Grove near the Benton-Marshall line. He later moved to Salem.
William married Martha Jane Bell, daughter of Ira Bell and Edith Harper. (Martha Jane Bell was born on 25 Jun 1831,3 died on 16 Mar 1900 3 and was buried in Liberty Cemetery, Ashland, Benton County, Mississippi 3.)
