  General Notes:

By the time of the 1910 census, Richard and wife Ida had been in California about 4 or 5 years. They were listed with Richard's father, Moritz Benedix, along with another of his married brothers and two single ones in Oakdale, Stanislaus County. Richard listed his occupation as farm laborer. He gave his birthplace as Texas and that of his parents as Germany.

When Richard registered for the WWI draft on 12 Sep 1918, he was farming for himself in Stanislaus County, California. His wife Ida was his nearest relative. Richard was still farming in Oakdale, Stanislaus County, California, at the time of the 1920 census. He was paying a mortgage to own his home. On the 1930 census, he indicated that he owned his home in Oakdale, Stanislaus County, California. The family was living on a farm and he was farming. It was listed as a general farm. He said he was 20 when first married. His middle initial was shown as "R". His married sons Paul and Edwin lived nearby. In 1935 and 1940 he was farming along the Valley Home Highway near Oakdale, Stanislaus County, California.

Richard's mother's maiden name was Zilinsky according to the California Death Index. His brother, William Herman Benedix's death certificate showed the mother as Magdalena Mickel. Paul R Benedix California Death Index showed the mother as Miekle. Magdalena was traveling with the father and first 3 children when they immigrated in 1883.
