MESQUITE - Charles Elson Batchelor Sr., 74, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, in Dallas.
Celebration of life services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road in Amarillo, with Glen Walton and Dick Marcear officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo.
Mr. Batchelor was born Nov. 26, 1932, to Charlie and Juanita Batchelor in Mills County. He worked on a ranch near Brownwood and had owned service stations in Amarillo, CB Automotive, Bivins, Shamrock and Shell stations. He was a mechanic for several years and lived in several places. Mr. Batchelor moved to Amarillo in 1952 and lived here most of his life. He worked for Bell Helicopter and Crowe-Gulde. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading his Bible and the dominoes game 42. He was an outdoorsman and loved his grandchildren and family. He was known as a jack-of-all-trades, but mastered none. He was a very caring, loving, gentle and kind, miracle man who endured a lot, but was very strong. He never met a stranger. Mr. Batchelor received several awards from the city for his business and services to the community.
Survivors left to cherish his memories include three sons, Charles Batchelor Jr. of Bella Vista, Ark., Larry Batchelor and wife Jeanne of Mesquite and Michael Batchelor and wife Dorothea of Amarillo; a daughter, Linda Batchelor-Cole of Mesquite; a brother, Aaron Batchelor of Sonora; a sister, Lolla-Joyce Rose of Stephenville; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, P.O. Box 7448, Amarillo, TX 79114-7448.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
