Daniel's parents were Cyrus Patrick Bivens and Rebecca Canifax, both born in Tennessee according to the 1880 census. (According to the 1880 census, his paternal grandparents were born in Georgia although the Bivens Gedcom showed North Carolina for both.) At the time of the 1880 census, he was living with his father, stepmother Eliza A., stepsister Ellen P. Briscoe, and half-siblings Thomas, Sarah E., Frank, and Hettie L. in Wise County, Texas.

At the time of the 1900 census, Daniel was a farm laborer. He rented his home in Mineral Wells, Palo Pinto County, Texas. His sister in law Jeptha Newby was living with his family. At the time of the 1910 census, Daniel was a mechanic and blacksmith. He rented his home in Britton, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. At the time of the 1920 census, Daniel was a laborer for a packing plant. He rented his home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He lived next to son Joseph's family. At the time of the 1930 census, he was a real estate salesman. He owned his home in Bethany, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. It was valued at $3000.

Rites for Dan Bivins, Former Bethany Realton, Are Delayed

Services for Dan Bivins, 75 year old retired Bethany real estate dealer who died Sunday night, were delayed Monday pending arrival of relatives from California.

Bivins died of a heart ailment at his home, 2325 Southwest Thirty-fourth street, after an illness of about two years.

He had lived in Oklahoma for about 34 years, coming from Texas. Before entering the real estate business he was a blacksmith at Britton and worked in a packing plant here. He retired 12 years ago.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Jim, of the home address, and Joe, 2121 South Agnew Avenue; a half brother, Tom Bivins, who lives in Texas; and five grandchildren. Services will be announced by the Garrison funeral home.
