At the time of the 1920 census, she was living in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, with her parents and maternal grandparents, Willie and Nancy Cleaver, also born in Kentucky. Her father was a machinist in an auto shop. At the time of the 1930 census, the extended family was still altogether in Nashville, with the addition of Helen's sister Jacqueline. Her father was an auto mechanic. Social Security had her last residence as Mount Juliet, Wilson County, Tennessee.
