General Notes:
William Cledy Hunt, of San Antonio and Kenedy TX, passed away on the 5th of June, 2010 at age 87.
He was born to Florence Delaney (Garner) and Cornelius Bennett Hunt on August 28, 1922 at his Choate (Kenedy) home in Karnes County.
He preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Luther B., Travis, Lamar and sister Mattie Lee Hunt McGrand.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Bobbie, only daughter Sandra Ann Hunt Satterfield and her husband Sack, grandson Shawn D. Williams and great grandson Timothy Williams. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kenedy. Almost immediately after his graduation from Kenedy High School Cledy served as a page to Congressman Kleberg of Texas in the House of Representatives in Washington D.C.. As World War II began, he entered the Navy where he served as a signalman. He often reminisced of his tour, where he sailed "around the world" but was thankful that he could return to his "home place" at Choate. After discharge from the service, Cledy began work in the oil industry, eventually joining a partner in forming Bay Rock Corporation, which managed oil properties. He retired at age 65 to enjoy the old farm at Choate and country life. He was a lifelong avid fisherman/hunter and enjoyed sports of all kinds. One of his greatest joys was sharing evenings around the fire at the hunting camp, or "wettin' a hook" with grandson Shawn as he was growing up. Cledy was a true and active Mason who lived his life according to their principles. He held many offices including Worshipful Master in multiple lodges as well as District Deputy Grand Master. He was a member of the Alzafar Shrine and played trumpet in the Shrine Band for more than 20 years, enjoying the parades and concerts. He held leadership roles in the Shrine as well-serving as President of the Texas Shrine Band Association. He was also a member and strong worker in the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Patron and a number of other local Chapter and Tens Grand Chapter positions. He was one of the first male members of the Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, lending a hand where ever and when ever he could. He thoroughly enjoyed driving a Suburban full of "the girls" on their road trips. Cledy had a quiet but sincere belief and faith which allowed him to accept his failing health with grace, believing it to be a part of God's plan. His loved ones feel blessed to have been a part of his life.
Funeral Services were held Tues. June 8th 2010 at the Choate Cemetery at 10 A.M. with Rev. John Wheat officiating and interment services were under the auspices of the Kenedy Masonic Lodge * 774. (bio by: Carolyn Mackey-Byrum)
