At the time of the 1910 census, the family lived in Smith County, Texas, where his father was proprietor of a saw mill. His siblings were Walter B. and Lillian B. They were listed in Browning Smith County, Texas, in 1920. His father was farming. The new siblings were Ruby L., Mabel C. and Fred W. According to the 1930 census, Charlie married in about 1922, but their was no spouse listed with him. He was part of his parents household along with Robert L., 3/12 years old. His sister Ruby was also shown as married but without a spouse. His uncle, Harry W. Griffin, and several boarders lived with them. His father owned a saw mill and Charlie worked in it. Social Security had his last residence as Tyler, Smith County, Texas.

Charlie married Emily Corine Brunson, daughter of George William Brunson Sr and Julia Effie Catherine Kimbrow, on 4 Apr 1964 in Kilgore, Gregg County, Texas. (Emily Corine Brunson was born on 4 Apr 1900 in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas,⁶ died on 23 Feb 1993 in , Smith County, Texas ^{6 7} and was buried in Overton Cemetery, Overton, Rusk County, Texas ¹.)
