The informant on her death certificate, Mrs. C.F. Bailey, didn't know her parent's names. Carolyn Getting's Ancestry.com tree gave their names as Bright Waters and Mary Garner, both born in Georgia.

Carrie married William Isaac Marshall, son of Richard Spencer Marshall and Sarah Caroline Blanton, on 20 Jun 1886 in Webberville, Travis County, Texas. (William Isaac Marshall was born on 23 Jun 1865 in Tennessee,^{1 5 7} died on 17 May 1935 in Runge, Karnes County, Texas ^{5 7} and was buried on 18 May 1935 in Runge City Cemetery, Runge, Karnes County, Texas ^{7 8}.). The cause of his death was cerebral arteriosclerosis.⁴
