There must be an error on his birth date, birth name or parentage. The only birth recorded in Tom Green County for this date was Troy Webb Bowen. His parents married in 1924 and no child was shown with Jack and Thelma Barr on the 1930 census. 1922 is engraved on his tombstone. Social Security had his last residence as Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas.

Services for Clifford Brooks Barr, 77, of Lubbock will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. John H. Ballard officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

He died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at his home.

He was born Sept. 28, 1922, in San Angelo. He graduated from Cross Plains High School in 1940 and from Texas Technological College in 1949. He married Ava Ruth Stangel on March 24, 1948, in Lubbock. She died Jan. 4, 1999.

He moved to Lubbock in 1945 after being discharged as a second lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corps. He worked at Hemphill-Wells Company from 1945 until retiring in 1977 as gift department manager. He later worked as a sales representative at the Dallas Trade Mart. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta (Silver Key), Texas Tech Ex-Students Association, Red Raider Club and First Baptist Church Bible class. He served as president of the Southwest Lubbock Rotary Club, St. Mary's Auxiliary, First Baptist Church Bible class and was chairman of the California Gift Show Committee in Los Angeles.

Survivors include two sons, Brooks of Brownwood and Jack of Lubbock; a daughter, Eugenia "Jennie" Barr of Austin; and four grandchildren.
