Abilene Reporter News, 10 Feb 1944, page 6 reported that Troy Gilbreth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Gilbreth was taken as a prisoner of war by the Japanese.

19 Oct 1944, page 17, the same paper reports that Troy Gilbreth son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Gilbreth is still being held prisoner by the Japanese. The family reportedly lived in Hawley, Texas.

Obit in Abilene Reporter stated that he was a member of the "Lost Battalion of Corregidor Island" in the Philippines and was a Japanese prisoner of war for 44 months. (The 2nd Battalion which he was part of is referred to as the "Lost Battalion" but didn't go to Corregidor Island or the Philippines according to unit information on the prisoner of war site. They were sent to Pearl Harbor, Australia, and Indonesia.)

He was released 15 Oct 1945.

He was a merchant. Social Security had his last residence as Mason, Mason County, Texas. He had been a resident there for 25 years. 3

  Medical Notes:

He suffered from extreme neurosis that began while he was a prisoner of war in World War II. That led to alcoholism. 5
