At the time of the 1920 census, he was a general farmer in Brown County, Texas. He owned his home free of mortgage. John married Avis D. Anderson, daughter of Roy Anderson and Martha G. Brosius, in 1906 in Texas.1 (Avis D. Anderson was born on 10 Oct 1886 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas,7 10 11 died on 28 Jul 1971 in Brownwood Community Hospital, Brownwood, Brown County, Texas 7 8 10 12 and was buried on 30 Jul 1971 in Greenleaf Cemetery, Brownwood, Brown County, Texas 8 9 10.). The cause of her death was senile ASCVD. Contributory condition was protein wasting syndrome.
