At the time of the 1920 census, Roy's family lived in Cross Plains, Callahan County, Texas, where his father was an automobile mechanic. His siblings were Vida and Dixie Irene. They were in Cross Plains in 1930 also, but at that time his father was a gasoline salesman. Roy worked as a Texaco gasoline agent. His last residence was Rising Star, Eastland County, Texas.

Roy married Mary Elizabeth McAdams, daughter of Jesse McAdams and Mary Gwenell Barr, on 6 Oct 1938 in Cross Plains, Callahan County, Texas.¹ (Mary Elizabeth McAdams was born on 24 May 1917 in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas,⁷ died on 30 Jul 1985 in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas ⁸ and was buried in Cross Plains Memorial Park, Cross Plains, Callahan County, Texas ⁹.)
