  General Notes:

Betsy graduated from Milan High School after her family moved to Milan, Missouri, in 1922. She attended Cottey College, a two-year liberal arts college in Nevada, Missouri, for one year. Betsy's son James recalls she told him: "… she couldn't go back for her second year because Vennie [her mother] needed an operation & Penn [her father] told her he 'couldn't swing them both.'" She later attended Culver-Stockton College at Canton, and Chillicothe Business College. Elizabeth worked as medical secretary at a clinic in Durant, Oklahoma, then returned to Milan to work in a bank.

Betsy worked for the Red Cross during World War II and was a secretary for the Prichard Company, her husband's civil engineering firm, in its early days. At this same time (1952), she was secretary for the First Methodist Church, Independence. She was a longtime member of the Methodist Church and the P.E.O. Sisterhood and served as the first executive secretary of that organization's Missouri State Chapter from 1955 to 1966.

After her husband died in 1960 she worked in the library at St. Paul's School of Theology, Kansas City, then the library at Central Missouri State College, Independence Branch. She retired in 1968.

Social Security Death Index last residence information is misleading: My mother Elizabeth Prichard was living in Gladstone, Missouri, when she died on 21 Sep 1986. I was living in Evergreen, Colorado, and was handling her affairs. -- Vincent Prichard, November 2009

Mrs. Prichard had donated her body to the University of Missouri at Kansas City for medical research and the remains were later cremated. Graveside services were held for her 16 Jun 1988 at Greenwood Cemetery, Gallatin, Daviess County, Missouri.

Note: The P.E.O. Sisterhood is an international women's organization of about 250,000 members with a primary focus on providing educational opportunities for female students worldwide. The Sisterhood is organized with chapters throughout the United States and Canada, headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) 8 9 10
